Are you planning to visit the Oban area to follow your MacIntyre (Wright, McIntire, McIntyre) family heritage?
There are plenty of MacIntyres in our area - with the clan family having their cattle farm in the beautiful Glenoe, a glen behind Ben Cruachan until they left for the opportunities in America in early 1800s.
As one of my passions is local history and genealogy, I host the Ardchattan Parish Archive here at Kintaline, I am a keen and experienced genealogist and local historian, and I would love to help you find the places that your family ancestors are connected to.
One of the most iconic MacIntyres is Duncan Ban MacIntyre - the renowned gaelic poet who was born in a remote township in beautiful Glenorchy, moved around as he worked as forester and keeper for Campbell of Breadalbane, he was enlisted in the Jacobite rebellion on the British side, without being fully in support of their aims, and then moved to Edinburgh to be one of the early police forces.

Places to visit as you explore our area is the most amazing day trip deep into Loch Etive where you really get to experience the landscape of the past communities of the loch, including MacIntyre families, to St Conans Kirk - a unique architectural building that includes a recognition of the MacIntyres of the area with their own Chair in the 2 sets of highly carved chairs in the Apse that includes Campbells, MacNaughtons and MacGregors, the clan families of old, - and also includes Robert the Bruce chapel with a full size recumbant effigy
Further east you can visit the memorial to Duncan Ban in Dalmally .. a short climb up to the monument on the hill above the village, with outstanding views across Loch Awe.
