The Ballachulish slate quarries are one of our local heritage industries, now a pleasant easy guided walk, which can be extended around behind Glencoe hotel
The old Ballachulish slate quarries supplied most of Scotland with slates for generations, employing men who travelled to the area from many parts of the country to settle here.
From close to Kintaline House to Ballachulish there is the route 78 Sustrans recreational cycle track which provides an interestingalternative way to travel. This has taken over the old railway spur line that was built to bring out the slate to the Oban and Glasgow line.
When cycling in this area, always worth taking light walking shoes as there are great walks, museums and gardens to enjoy.
The bus from Oban to Fort William which you can pick up in the village, also stops at Ballachulish.
The second part of the walk is a delightfully scenic stroll around the peninsula behind the Isles of Glencoe Hotel.
