Scottish Islands Peaks Race Oban May

The Scottish Islands Peaks Race Starts in Oban – Adventure on Our Doorstep

This week, Oban once again welcomed one of the most exhilarating endurance events on the Scottish calendar – the Scottish Islands Peaks Race. An extraordinary test of stamina, teamwork, and navigation, the race combines fell running and sailing across some of the most stunning islands of the west coast.

Starting at Oban Sailing Club, runners tackled a fast loop over Pulpit Hill before jumping into kayaks and rowing out to join their sailing teams. From there, 33 teams continued the challenge across sea and mountain – scaling Ben More on Mull, the Paps of Jura, and Goatfell on Arran – before racing to the finish line in Troon.

With 60 miles of running and 160 miles under sail, it's an epic adventure – and this year’s near-windless conditions added a whole new layer of challenge, with many teams resorting to oars to get moving!

Were you cheering from the roadside? Or do you know someone on one of the teams?

Kintaline House makes an ideal base either before or after the race – whether you’re training, spectating, or taking a well-earned rest. Just a short distance from the start line, our eco-friendly, spacious self-catering accommodation is perfect for individuals or teams preparing for the big weekend.

Why not book your stay for next year’s race? You can train on local hills, support your team from the shore, and enjoy the peaceful surroundings once the race is done.
