The Oban and Lorn area is renowned for the awe-inspiring waters which are the inspiration of many photographers, and the playground for so many different watersports. We have some fantastic local businesses who will give you the experiences of a lifetime on the water and beneath the waves.
The Oban Outdoors group is a wonderful facebook group to connect up with other locals and experiences.
Stand up paddleboarding is a recent favourite, and it is the perfect way to explore our individual lochs, take a gentle evening in the sunset on the beaches.
There is plenty of space at the house for equipment, an outdoor tap to wash down, a whirly to hang up and lots of private parking.
The more adventurous can be seen kite surfing / kite foiling across the bays in the higher winds, it looks thrilling !
Canoeing around each is another way to gain unique perspectives on the coasts.
The Falls of Lora
are just one of the highlights for the white water kayakers
Underwater is just as fascinating : beautiful ecosystems and centuries old wrecks, to explore diving and snorkelling. You can explore with businesses like Puffin Dive, Basking Shark Scotland, and Dive Oban. There are many clubs and groups who enjoy our waters.
The sailing in our waters, between and around the islands, along the coasts is sublime, and the house is the perfect place for the land lubbers to enjoy their holiday as they adventure. In July the West Highland Yachting week is an exciting time from land or sea.
The best local beach is close to the house Ardmucknish / Tralee Beach : ideal for long walks, wild swimming, gentle paddling, and just sitting watching the glorious sunsets.
Fishing is very popular in the area : deep sea skate fishing with the highly experienced Laura Dawn 2 (07721 640024) : trout fishing in the rivers and a variety of loch fishing from the shore or boats, like TLC boat hire on Loch Etive, or Loch Awe boats (07703 112422) to fish (permits required) or explore the many small islands of the loch and it's rich heritage of castles and crannogs. Inverawe smokehouse have put in a variety of trout ponds for visitors to enjoy (the non fishers can walk into the hills, watch the red squirrels / enjoy the delights of the cafe). The Oban and Lorn Angling Club will provide lots of information about permits, access, boat hire.
Wild swimming is very popular - you can chose one of many beaches or lochs, you can join the local Wild Swimming group, or chose an open water guide like Dan the Merman.
